HE Chong captured China’s sixth gold medal in six Beijing Games diving events when he scored a monumental win on the three-metre springboard yesterday.
The home hero drew roars from the home crowd in the Water Cube with every dive as he brought China their fourth consecutive Olympic gold in the men’s springboard, dominating the final with a fizzing set of high-scoring dives.

BEIJING (AP) - Russia is ahead after the duet free preliminaries of Olympic synchronized swimming, giving the formidable duo a chance to defend their gold medal.
Anastasia Davydova and Anastasia Ermakova totaled 98.834 points Tuesday, maintaining the lead they owned after Monday's technical routine.

BEIJING (AP) - Brenda Villa scored three goals, including the game-winner with a minute remaining, and the U.S. women's water polo team advanced to the gold medal match with a 9-8 victory against Australia on Tuesday.
The Americans went more than 8 minutes without scoring and watched a three-goal lead evaporate into an 8-8 tie.

An AUSTRALIAN swim coach has sparked a storm after admitting selling the training programme used by his protege Jessica Schipper for “big money” to the Chinese girl who beat her at the Olympics.
Ken Wood sold his top-secret training methods, which transformed Schipper into a world-record breaking 200m butterflyer, to the Chinese coach of Liu Zige, according to News Ltd newspapers in Australia yesterday.

TUNISIAN Oussama Mellouli shattered Australian Grant Hackett's Olympic treble dream and put behind him his own drugs nightmare with an upset triumph in the 1,500m freestyle yesterday.
Mellouli, 24, killed off Hackett's bid to become the first man to win three Olympic titles in the same event and also claim the first-ever Olympic swimming gold medal for Tunisia.

GLOWING from his record-breaking eighth Olympic gold medal win, the world's greatest swimmer just wants to give his mother a proper hug.
Michael Phelps, whose quest to beat Mark Spitz's 36-year record of seven gold medals in a single Olympics has dominated the Beijing Games, said all he wanted to do now is go home and relax.

AUSTRALIA set a world record of 3:52.69 to win the gold medal in the women's 4x100m medley yesterday.
Backstroker Emily Seebohm, breaststroker Leisel Jones, butterflyer Jessicah Schipper and freestyler Libby Trickett teamed up to wipe 3.05 seconds off the previous record Australia set at last year's world championships in Melbourne.

Germany's Britta Steffen won the women's 50m freestyle yesterday, edging US veteran Dara Torres to complete a swimming sprint double at the Beijing Games.
Steffen, who outgunned world record-holder Libby Trickett to win the 100m freestyle gold, clocked 24.06 and edged the 41-year-old Torres by just one one-hundredth of a second.

CHINA's Guo Jinging became the most successful female diver in Olympic history yesterday as she leapt away from a top-class field to win the women's three-metre springboard gold medal.
Her triumph in front of her home fans meant she broke the record set by legendary Chinese diver Fu Minxia, who won five Olympic medals in her career.

BEIJING (AP): Japanese swimmer Kosuke Kitajima said Sunday he will consider retiring after the Olympics now that he has won his third and fourth golds in the Beijing Water Cube.
Kitajima, who successfully defended his titles from Athens in the men's breaststroke 100 and 200 meters, added on a bronze Sunday in the men's medley relay.
